Alfonso Cuaron will visit South Korea for the first time to attend the Busan Film Festival

Alfonso Cuaron will visit South Korea for the first time to attend the 31st Busan International Film Festival.The two-time Oscar winner for Best Director plans to attend the opening ceremony and hold masterclasses during the festival to share the artistic choices and filmmaking methods that influence his creations.

Busan will also host a special screening of the IMAX version of Gravity.Cuaron won his first Oscar for Best Director in 2014 for this film, and won the award for the second time in 2019 for Roma.The festival will schedule the screening in conjunction with his visit.

Cuaron will also be on hand to support his son Jonas Cuaron's new film this time.The film has entered the “World Cinema” section and will have its Asian premiere in Busan. A Q&A with the main creators will be held after the screening.Honers previously co-wrote Gravity with his father and has since directed films and streaming projects on his own.

Son's new film stars Juan Daniel Garcia Trevino, Leslie Grace, Ruben Blades, Eddie Marsan, Rosario Dawson and Kiki Marin.The film focuses on the experience of a Mexican immigrant trying to build a life in the United States. Reports describe it as a story with a light-hearted tone that also faces the reality of the situation.

Honas co-produces with Alfonso Cuaron through Esperanto Filmoj, with Nicolas Sellis also producing.This is the second time that father and son have collaborated on the same feature film project after co-writing the screenplay.After the film completes its Asian premiere in Busan, the main creators will meet the audience at a post-screening event.

Jonas Cuaron previously wrote the Gravity screenplay with his father and later directed Desierto and a Netflix fantasy adventure.The new film was selected into Busan’s “World Cinema” section, and its Asian premiere and post-screening Q&A have been included in the event schedule announced by the film festival.

The lineup of international guests for this year's Busan Film Festival has been announced.Michelle Yeoh will return to Busan after 15 years to receive the Asian Filmmaker of the Year honor. Maggie Gyllenhaal, Isabelle Huppert, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Lee Chang-dong and Luo Hongzhen are also scheduled to attend.

As for Asian guests, Zhou Xun, Fan Bingbing and Shu Qi are on the list.Korean filmmakers and actors include Jeon Do-yeon, Seol Kyung-gu, Jo In-sung, Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Min-ho, Hyun Bin and Jung Woo-sung.The festival also previously confirmed that Zhang Yimou will serve as chairman of the main competition jury.

The 31st Busan International Film Festival will be held from October 6th to 15th at the Busan Film Center and various venues in the port city.The Asian Content and Film Market for the same period is scheduled from October 10th to 13th.Cuaron's opening ceremony attendance, master classes, IMAX screenings and the Asian premiere of his son's new film are all included in this year's event schedule.

The main competition section will screen 13 shortlisted works.Zhang Yimou serves as the chairman of the jury, and filmmakers such as Bi Gan, Kei Ishikawa, and Julie Zheng are also on the jury.The guest list and unit activities announced by the film festival will be launched at the same event as the schedule of Cuarón and his son.

Cuaron's first public trip to South Korea already includes the opening ceremony of the film festival and a master class.A special screening of Gravity and a post-screening Q&A with Jonas Cuarón's new film will also be held during the Busan Film Festival.
