On the streets of Hong Kong, a young woman keeps seeing her future self. The stranger she meets changes the direction of the night, and possibly the rest of her life.Guo Gongda's new film - Zi - (Zi) has released its second official trailer and new poster. It will be distributed in the United States by Grasshopper Film and will be released in some theaters starting from November 6. The Metrograph Theater in New York will be the first to screen it.

This film was shot in Hong Kong in a low-key manner by a small team. The crew traveled through the city and shot scenes as they went.Starring Michelle Mao, Haley Lu Richardson and Jin Ha as people who are short-term and find it difficult to settle. The story intertwines existential anxiety, emotional uncertainty and personal memories, and bends time in it.
The Sundance Film Festival introduction describes it as a sensitive cinematic poem: the camera embarks on a stylized wandering along the streets of Hong Kong, with repeated returns as form and theme. While the characters feel lost, the film simultaneously continues to search for peace.FirstShowing's report reminds that this is not a typical time travel movie, and time changes serve its dream-like feeling.

Guo Gongda serves as screenwriter, director and editor.Richardson, who has previously collaborated with him on Columbus and After Yang, joins the cast again; his feature film résumé also includes 2025’s A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, and he directed episodes of Pachinko and The Acolyte.

Chung An, Christopher Radcliffe, photographers Benjamin Loeb, Guo Gongda, and the three leading actors Richardson, Michelle Mao, and Jin He all participated in the production.
The film premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to mixed reviews. Some critics thought it was wandering and undisciplined, while others were attracted by the dreamlike quality.
