Bunker starring Bardem and Cruz releases preview trailer

An architect was invited by a tech billionaire to build a doomsday survival bunker for him. This seemingly important commission made his wife begin to re-examine their 17-year marriage.Sony Pictures Classics has released the first trailer for Florian Zeller's new film Bunker, in which real-life couple Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz play Miguel and Sofia.

Miguel is a successful architect in London. As he considers this commission, the couple becomes increasingly drawn into a life of extreme wealth, paranoia, and fear, and a disturbing neighbor becomes another source of anxiety in the family. The film puts the marital relationship into an increasingly uncertain external environment and discusses how fear, doubt and ethical dilemmas affect the relationship between two people.

Zeller said he wrote the story from the beginning for Bardem and Cruz, who were both the starting point and inspiration for the project. He values their acting ability as well as the recognizability of the couple themselves. When it comes to his creative intentions, he hopes to explore love, loyalty and forgiveness, and intentionally puts the audience in a position that is difficult to determine: is what they see in front of them a glimpse of reality, fiction, or a re-examination of reality itself?

According to the director, the film follows the process of reconciliation between a man and a woman. They still love each other, but in the middle of their lives, they need to find new ways to express that love.Stephen Graham, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Mark Gatiss also participated in the performance, and Paul Dano played the technology tycoon and appeared in this pilot trailer.

《Bunker》(Bunker) was written and directed by Zeller. He has previously filmed The Father and The Son, and has also created stage plays in London and New York. The new film is inspired by Mariano Cohen and Gaston Duprat's The Man Next Door (El hombre de al lado).Producers include Fernando Bovaila, Alice Dawson, Simone de Santiago, Federica Saint-Rose and Zeller himself.

The film premiered in the main competition section of the Venice Film Festival in September this year, and has since traveled to Toronto, Zurich, London, Mill Valley and Chicago Film Festivals.Alex Billington, author of FirstShowing, described the reviews after the Venice premiere as ranging from mixed to negative; he also had a poor impression of the film, believing that many of the concepts proposed by the film did not really work in the film.

Sony Pictures Classics plans to arrange a short-term US awards season screening on December 11, 2026, and then release it in some US theaters from January 15, 2027.
