Netflix in the United States has released Police Squad! starring Leslie Nielsen.

For a long time, if I wanted to watch Police Squad!, I had to find a set of physical DVDs first. Now, the comedy starring Leslie Nielsen and later developed into a film series is finally available to watch on Netflix in the United States.

The series is created by David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker, the creative team behind Airplane!.Nelson plays Detective Frank Drebin, who solves cases with his colleagues. The story uses the appearance of a police drama to pack a lot of visual jokes, sudden nonsensical dialogue, and baggage that is so dense that people have no time to react.

ABC announced the cancellation after airing only four episodes, and the other two episodes were aired only after the news was announced. One explanation for this decision is that the punchlines were too dense and the audience had to pay close attention to keep up.In the years since, the show has also been difficult to find on streaming media.

Six years after the series ended, Drebin came back to life with The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, released in 1988.Nelson continued to star, along with Priscilla Presley, George Kennedy and O.J. Simpson. After the success of the movie, two sequels starring him were released in the 1990s: The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear and The Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult.

Nelson died in 2010.In 2025, Akiva Schaffer directed a new version of The Naked Gun, starring Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Drebin Sr.

As of the time of publication of this TVLine report, the 2025 film had a positive rating of 88“ from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a positive rating of 72” from audiences.
