At the beginning of the filming of the documentary, Cao Xueqin helped contact some red experts and provided several shooting locations.

Some of the commentary points in the documentary were recorded by Zhang Qingshan, president of the Red Society of China, during an interview with the documentary crew in May 2019.

At the end of the first episode, the producers ignored that after the Cao family was ransacked, they took the canal waterway from Nanjing to Beijing. The scene where Cao Xueqin appeared in the queue of imperial prisoners and was escorted by the government officers while walking in the woods was wrong.
