Kyoto Gyoen National Garden is located in the center of Kyoto city.In the past, there were many noble mansions in this area.It was opened as a park during the Meiji period and is now a resting place for citizens.
In a corner of the garden is the former site of Tsuchimikadoden, the residence of Fujiwara Michichiro and Minamoto Renko.Murasaki Shikibu came here with Akiko who returned to her hometown to give birth. In Murasaki Shikibu's diary, there are detailed records of what happened in Tsuchimikado-den, including the ceremony to pray for a safe childbirth, the priest's loving care for his grandson, etc.
Prince Donsung's "Fifty Day Ceremony" was also held here.Fujiwara Kohito asked: Is Wakamura around here? Murasaki Shikibu asked. This anecdote is considered to be the oldest record of The Tale of Genji.
The Fujiwara family ushered in prosperity and wealth with this peaceful place as the center.
